The Pacharán Navarro Geographical Indication, under the Reyno Gourmet seal of quality managed by INTIA, celebrated the fourth edition of the "Sloe Blossom" festival in Mendavia. At this fourth edition, the Pacharán Navarro Geographical Indication wanted to pay tribute to three individuals who have actively contributed to the development and growth of Pacharán Navarro.
The event was attended by the Minister of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarra, José María Aierdi, along with the president of the IG Pacharán Navarro,
Adrian Subia, and the mayor of Mendavia, Maria Jose Verano.
During the event, a tribute was paid to Ignacio Guembe, who was director of the Agricultural Holdings and Agri-Food Development Service of the Department of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarre until last October, and who served as the Government of Navarre's representative on the Pacharán Navarro Regulatory Council for the past few years. Also recognized were Itziar Inza, who served as secretary of the Pacharán Navarro Regulatory Council for the past six years until her retirement in June 2024; and Darío Prados, a producer from Sesma, who has dedicated a large part of his life to the production of Pacharán Navarro.
During the event, the Minister of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of
Navarra, José María Aierdi, stated that “the Pacharán Navarro is a symbol of identity
"of our land and the tenacity of our farmers who learned to cultivate blackthorn and not just harvest its wild fruits. In fact, Navarre is the only place in Europe where this shrub is cultivated." In this regard, Aierdi highlighted the work of the Pacharán de Navarra GI and congratulated the honorees.
A complete program of activities
Following the success of the first three editions held in Sesma (2022), Mués (2023), and Peralta/Azkoien (2024), the IG Pacharán Navarro celebrates the moment when the buds that will eventually blossom begin to appear. And it does so with a packed program of events between yesterday, Friday, and today, Saturday, centered around Pacharán Navarro and the blackthorn blossom.
Among the events were a market with companies that have been awarded the Pacharán Navarro GI (Gender-Based Product); a popular tasting of Reyno Gourmet pintxos by Txomin Parrilla; a concert by Mendavia artist Mon Dvy; Pacharán Navarro tasting workshops; and a "Minus Five" competition in Mendavia bars, in collaboration with the La Carrera Youth Association.
The Pacharán Navarro Geographical Indication is attached to 'Spain in Bloom', a project that collaborates in the 'Sloe Bloom' festival and aims to create a network with the
different actors and promote the unique blooms of each autonomous community with tourist activities.
