Santos, co-founder of Agromarketing and head of the “Spain in Bloom” project, explained the opportunities that this new inland tourism opens up in light of the growing interest of visitors in discovering the natural beauty of Spain through its flowers.

The “Spain in Bloom” project was launched as an initiative to promote quality tourism, focused on the appreciation of nature, local gastronomy, and the culture of rural areas. According to Santos, this form of tourism not only attracts those who wish to enjoy the picturesque beauty of the fields in bloom, but also benefits local communities by promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism.

The interview, conducted by the Fin de Semana editorial team, highlighted how flowering tourism offers an alternative for those looking to escape typical mass tourism, inviting them to explore lesser-known corners of Spain.

Antonio Santos made a first assessment of how the flowering season is going in 2024, in which he highlights the excellent response of tourists to the offer being made by different territories such as the Jerte Valley, Cieza, etc., in which foreign visitors are increasingly important. In this sense, Santos stressed that "this is a quality tourist, who knows how to appreciate nature but also the gastronomy, culture and history that surrounds these rural areas, many of them framed in what is called the emptied Spain, which is increasingly important in national tourism."

Santos mentioned some of the most anticipated moments from now on, such as the flowering of the blackthorns in Navarra, which turn the fields white, or the spectacular flowering of the apple trees in the Comarca de La Sidra, which becomes an attraction for visitors at the end of April.

Beyond enjoying the incomparable views of the fields in bloom, the “Spain in Bloom” project seeks to involve visitors in the rich gastronomic culture and history of each region, offering a deeper and more enriching tourist experience. The initiative relies on digital tools, such as the website floracion.es, to provide up-to-date information on the best times and places to enjoy this natural phenomenon.

As the project manager explained, “flowering tourism is presented as an invitation to rediscover Spain from a different perspective, promoting respect for nature and supporting local economies.
