Flowering in

Sierra Magina

(April)

Cherry blossoms are a great time in this part of the region, as the rainy weather in the months preceding the event creates ideal conditions for enjoying the event.

The magic of flowering

Sierra Magina

If you like white landscapes, don't be sad when winter ends, not only the snow covers the ground, making it one of the most beautiful panoramas of our land. The cherry blossom in this part of the region makes you think you are in a dream, because of its beauty.

This nirvana is located in the province of Jaén, whose peak, the Mágina peak, is one of the highest peaks in Andalusia, with an altitude of 2,167 meters, which crowns a limestone massif.

Sierra Mágina was declared a Natural Park in 1989. Located in the heart of the Jaén countryside, it includes the municipalities of Albanchez de Mágina, Bedmar and Garcíez, Bélmer de la Moraleda, Cambil, Huelma, Jimena, Jódar, Pegalajar and Torres; where the highest mountain range in the province is located.

Cherry Blossom

In spring you can see the green grass on the ground covered by the petals of this beautiful tree. The cherry blossoms take us to the north of the mountain range, one of the wonders of the municipality of Torres in Jaén.

Cherry blossoms are a great time in this part of the region, as the rainy weather in the months preceding the event creates ideal conditions for enjoying the event.

When you contemplate this miracle of nature you can hear Tchaikovsky's “Waltz of the flowers” playing, while you enjoy an explosion of flowers, forming a whitish and extensive blanket that covers the mountains surrounding some of the towns in the province of Jaén, like a starry night covers the sky on a placid night.

Walking in the spring through this mountain range of Sierra Mágina is not only a visual spectacle, you can also enjoy the aroma of these fruit trees, so the immersion in the splendor of the cherry blossoms transports you to the most beautiful thoughts of your mind, while you delight in this prodigious spectacle.

Other blooms in Sierra Mágina

In addition to enjoying these light brown hardwood trees and their pretty bunches of white flowers, you can also enjoy the wonderful scenery offered by both the path and the surroundings of the place. Its flora is rich not only in cherry trees, but also in almond trees and, above all, olive trees. In the middle of the mountain you can find a small part of the forest that is home to some oak trees.

Fauna and flora in Sierra Magina

The forests of this mountain range are characterised by the holm oak, the quejido and the Aleppo pine, both the salt pine and the saltoremos. In addition to these trees, in the undergrowth, you can see species such as the aguacero, the cornicabra, the mastic, or the hawthorn, among others.

The fauna is home to representative mammals such as wild boar, wild goats and wild cats. Among the abundant birds of prey that live there, the golden eagle, the peregrine falcon and the Bonelli's eagle stand out. You can also find various reptiles in the rocky areas of the mountain range.

One of the species that we can find in the flora of this place is the Narcissus of Cazorla, which is listed as endangered. This beautiful yellow flower with thin green stems is exclusive to Andalusian lands. Its habitat is on the banks of streams, springs, and in reed beds, in the mountains located in the provinces of Jaén and Granada.

Routes in Sierra Magina

If you want to lose yourself in a fairy-tale world, there is a small trail, known as Adelfa de Cuadros, which covers about 0.4 km, where you can see species such as beautiful weeping willows and fig trees, among others.

Does this seem like a short walk to you? The mountain range offers you the Caño del Aguadero Trail, covering a distance of about 14.3 km, which includes an old watering hole at an altitude of 1,800 metres. This route is full of references to the past, when transhumance was part of daily life in these mountains.

To contemplate the great peaks of the mountain range, such as Pico Mágina, Almadén or Ponce, you can consider the Gibralberca Trail, an area from which you can delight in these peaks that exceed 2,000 meters in height.

A date with nature

Nature invites us to contemplate its wonders, and this is one we cannot miss. This spring, the cherry blossom awaits us in Sierra Mágina, Jaén, to delight us in its fullness, without forgetting to always respect the environment, so that we can continue to delight in the wonders that the earth gives us.

Magic exists in nature, and it shows itself majestically in such fascinating events as flowering, which you can enjoy without having to make long or expensive trips. Because the beauty with which the earth delights us is within everyone's reach.
